MGA Student Begins Internship with the State of Oaxaca, Mexico
Denis Gaudet obtained a position to work for the Secretariat of Social and Human Development (SEDESOH) in Oaxaca, Mexico. For over ten weeks, he was granted the opportunity to lead a qualitative research project on indigenous communities in the country’s third poorest municipality to understand the underlying causes of poverty. In addition to this work, Denis participated in local and international events exploring numerous communities and cities that were rich in Mexican and indigenous culture.
Denis said, “This internship was a unique opportunity to understand how a ministry works internally, but more than that, I learned more about the Mexican political system, context, and challenges. Additionally, the hands-on experience allowed me to see first hand the daily struggles that come with living in a developing country.”
