MGA STUDENTS HOLD A CONFERENCE ON REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT AT THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE
On April 23rd the students of the Master in Global Affairs (MGA) held a conference on Refugee Resettlement at the Council of Europe (COE) in Strasbourg, where they are currently located, in collaboration with the European Student Thinktank (EST).
The conference was introduced by guest speakers Juan Ignacio Iquino Lafuente, Deputy of the Permanent Representation of Spain to the CoE and Javier Ramos López, Rector of the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC). Students Claire Byrne and Michael Pass moderated the discussion and presented the panelists.
Local business owner Clémence Collomb-Gros talked about her experience participating at the Strasbourg edition of the Refugee Food Festival through her restaurant Le Botanist, while Jocelyn Dougan RN, who is also a student of the master, discussed refugees and mental health in Canada.
The panel was closed by Carlota Núñez Strutt, MGA’s Coordinator of Relations with International Organizations and former president of the EST. After a brief break, participants and MGA students split into two groups and had a 40-minute long working group discussion which included topics such as human rights and resettlement or the role of policy-makers, international organizations, NGOs and communities in resettlement. The conclusions were presented to the rest of the participants and will soon be published.
